RECREATIONAL AGE DIVISIONS (PreK** through Grade 6 - Note Grade 6 has the option to play MS)
Please register the grade level your child will be in THIS COMING FALL.
Pre-school children** must turn 4 by October 1st, of the current year to be eligible to play.
6th graders have the option to play in the Rec League or the Middle School League.
WHERE AND WHEN DO WE PLAY
Practices usually begin in mid August dependent on being able to set teams when we have enough volunteer coaches. Games typically start after Labor Day played primarily on Saturdays. There could be Sunday and/or weeknight games during the season. The season concludes late October. Saturday games will begin between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Games for the younger age groups are played at Hylen Souders Elementary School, 4121 Miller-Paul Road, Galena. Grade 4+ could be played in neighboring communities (Johnstown, New Albany, etc.). Middle School games will have a travel component to neighboring communities.
The practice schedule is set by each individual coach. This information will not be available until after the coaches meeting in August. Each coach will contact their team with this information.
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT
All PreK through Grade 2 will receive a new jersey. Returning players who have a reversible red/white jersey have the option to decline a new jersey.
All players must supply their own shorts, socks, shoes, soccer ball and required shin guards. Shoes may be soccer, baseball, or an all-purpose type of cleat. Metal cleats are not permitted. Tennis shoes, while permitted for the Recreational League, are not recommended. PreK, K, & Grade 1 should use a size 3 ball. Grades 2 - 5 should use a size 4 and MS uses a size 5 ball.
HOW TEAMS ARE FORMED
PreK will be coed. If we have enough coaches register to support separate boys and girls teams, we will return to this format.
Recreational League: Players registering will be placed on a team which are mostly randomized. We do try to level the teams according to coaches ratings.
Middle School: If enough players register, we will have separate teams for boys and girls. If necessary to form a single team, we will play coed. Our preference is to have both a boys and girls teams.
